The Briggs Story Continues
Today, Briggs continues to build upon the technology pioneered by Bruce. In addition to Rhododendrons, our company produces a wide assortment of woody ornamentals, perennials, blueberries, raspberries, forestry products, and wine grape starter plants. The attributes that make the lab successful have also been carried over to other aspects of production. Our motto and company directive is to “start clean, stay clean.” The construction of a new state-of-the-art tissue culture laboratory and Conley greenhouse further enhances our abilities to propagate and grow the best quality liners available.
In an effort to minimize our carbon footprint, Briggs requires all key items used in the production process to be sterilized or disinfected for reuse. Items not reused are recycled. We continually look for products that are environmentally friendly and sustainable. The use of inorganic fertilizers and chemicals has dropped dramatically as we find “greener” products. Our energy sources come from a variety of available outlets, i.e. electricity produced via hydroelectric and nuclear power, and propane for heating.
Briggs is one of the first proud participants in theUSDA's 'United States Nursery Certification Program' (USNCP). This audit based program ensures that cleanliness protocols are developed and utilized as part of the day to day production. Our customers can have confidence when buying from Briggs.
One of the favorite aspects of our company is our new plant evaluation program. Based in Briggs’ history of discovering new and improved plants for the changing horticultural market, our worldwide connection to progressive introducers and hybridizers ensure a pipeline of new plant materials for years to come.
