History and Business
Briggs Nursery was founded by Orson Briggs in 1912 on a 15-acre site. Bruce Briggs, Orson’s son, refined the nursery’s activities to the production and sale of ornamental nursery stock, with special emphasis on rhododendrons. Doris Briggs, Bruce’s wife took on the business administration while Bruce concentrated on plant production, establishing a micropropagation facility (the tissue culture lab) and pioneering the production of woody ornamentals in commercial quantities.
Dave Jarzynka leads the Company along with an experienced management team running nursery department operations. The management team responsible for day-to-day operations collectively has more than 50 years experience working at Briggs Nursery. The senior managers are: Lynne Caton – Propagation and Dan Meier – Production.
Briggs Nursery is currently one of the largest woody ornamental nurseries in the Pacific Northwest, the largest rhododendron introducer and producer in the world, and has the largest ornamental plant tissue culture laboratory in the United States.
