DESCRIPTION:
Provide a culture through leadership that
promotes innovation, mutual respect, risk taking, teamwork and change. Develop and foster organizational
relationships with support departments:
Production, Information Services, Accounting, Marketing and Shipping.
GENERAL
DUTIES:
1.
Management
of salable inventory, liner stock customer base and annual sales forecasts.
2.
Develop
and manage department labor, travel and advertising budgets.
3.
Facilitate
the duties and responsibilities of the employees in your department(s).
4.
Provide
necessary training for departmental personnel.
5.
Responsible
for the inventory of tools and equipment within your department.
6.
Review
the weekly progress checklists for your department(s). Use the information obtained to acknowledge
and encourage the department(s) to risk, grow and take initiative.
7.
Timely
submission of wage reviews and performance reviews. You are responsible for submitting reviews to
the President, and obtaining factual information pertaining to the employees
being reviewed.
8.
Responsible
for implementing and upholding company policies and procedures.
9.
Know
the priorities of your department(s), as well as all others that affect you.
10.
Schedule
and facilitate needed meetings and attend all required meetings.
11.
Attend
and/or participate in local or national meetings that will improve or update
job performance.
12.
Encourage
growth an innovation within Department.
13.
Besides
your normal work schedule, you will be involved in seminars, weekend and
evening meetings, special projects, trips, sales events, public events, public
relations, classes, dealing with customers, etc…

SPECIFIC ACCOUNTABILITIES:
I.
Manage Sales Staff:
A. Hire, train and
review sales and advertising staff.
B. Hold sales
meetings for staff which are designed to inform, educate and strengthen
relationships.
C. Develop and
encourage activities which further education of sales staff.
D. Develop and maintain
sales budget, schedules, wage and performance reviews.
II. Manage
the Customer Base:
A. Monitor key
accounts for sales levels, long term direction and feedback and level of
service that meets sales vision to become a preferred supplier.
B. Provide support
for customer development.
C. Provide input
to accounts receivable on credit issues.
D. Provide input
to senior management for sales opportunities and contract
discount levels, customer assignments, claims approval and contract
negotiation.
III. Manage
Salable Inventory:
A. Establish
allocations for crop as needed.
B. Periodic review
and adjustments to move products to appropriate market areas.
C. Regular visual
inspections to maintain working knowledge of inventory.
A. Review of
outgoing orders to maintain quality evaluation and conformity to grades and
standards. Recommend price adjustment
and terms. Market direction for crops,
annual sales forecast for liners, negotiation with customers within established
guidelines for pricing.
IV. Manage
Company Marketing Program
Marketing:
A. Assume active
role in annual sales functions, which are customer oriented (open house, trade
shows and newsletters).
B. Development of
catalog.
C. Input on value
added services (i.e. tagging, shipping, etc.)
D. Manage company
marketing programs.
Credit:
A. Training of
staff
B. Monitor past
due accounts for needed action.
C. Work closely
with Accounts Receivable Department.
D. Input on
catalog pricing and terms.
Sales Forecast:
A. Input on new
plants as requested by staff and customers.
B. Development of
product mix quantities and sizes on an annual basis.
Production:
A. Work with
Production Manager to review finish dates and maintenance as needed.
SPECIFIC
REQUIREMENTS:
1.
BA
in Business Administration or Business Management.
2.
Must
be able to balance multiple priorities, analyze problems and situations, and
display effective management leadership and communication skills.
3.
Must
possess a commitment to the company and to the health and well being of its
employees.
4.
Knowledge
of nursery history, structure, current trends, and fair knowledge of plant
nomenclature and cultural practices.
5.
Ability
to meet rigorous deadlines, problem solve, understand behavioral implications
of budget system, and deal with multiple levels of management on a variety of
complex issues.
6.
Ability
to speak and or teach in public settings or company meetings.
7.
An
understanding of internal auditing and its role in maintaining the integrity of
the accounting / management information systems.
8.
Ability
to be bonded at any time during course of employment.
