Photinia P. Glabra and P. Serrulata Red Robin
‘Red Robin’ is an improved cultivar of the straight species. It is more compact, and has brighter red color on the new foliage, lasting 2-3 weeks. It is also reported to have better resistance to leaf spot, Entomosporium maculatum. The leaves mature to leathery, oval, dark green, to 3-4″ long. Additional pruning may encourage new flushes of red leaves. Late Spring pruning has the added benefit of discouraging unpleasant fragranced flowering.
For best color and to discourage leaf spot, it is suggested to plant in the full sun, with good air circulation, and avoid overhead watering.
