JOB TITLE: Environmental Services Coordinator
DEPARTMENT: Environmental Services
REPORTS TO: Head Grower
WAGE RANGE: $65,000-$80,000 annually
JOB DESCRIPTION:
This leadership position is responsible for the timely coordination and tracking of irrigation and pest control products at Briggs Nursery. Pest control products may be chemical or biological and pests may be weeds, insects, diseases, rodents or other plant dangers. This position communicates with managers, irrigators, and spray applicators to ensure water and chemicals are applied in a timely manner in accordance with crop production goals. This position requires flexibility as well as excellent communication, organizational, and time-management skills.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Coordinates irrigation and spray activities between departments to keep applications on target.
- Coordinates preventative maintenance, repairs, installations, and operations of irrigation and spray equipment and components.
- Tracks projects, applications, and labor hours on a weekly basis.
- Maintains inventories and submits purchase requests.
- Performs trouble-shooting and grower support to ensure plants are properly watered and free of pests.
- Coordinates proper winterization of wells, buildings, and equipment as per Briggs winterization protocols.
- Assists in the hiring of new employees and sets schedules to meet seasonal needs.
- Provides labor budgets and reports to Head Grower upon request.
- Works with Head Grower and production team to improve irrigation and pest management strategies.
- Attends required meetings.
- Attends conferences and training as authorized by Ownership.
- Must be dependable and have a solid work attendance history
- Must be self-motivated, able to work alone as well as with a crew
- Willingness to work flexible hours and overtime if needed
- Basic knowledge and interest in growing plants
- Ability to perform basic mathematical and conversion calculations
- Basic plumbing knowledge
- Computer skills – Microsoft office and spread sheet proficiency
- Ability to read and analyze scientific information, chemical labels, and government forms
- Attention to detail
- Associates Degree and 2+ years related experience and/or 5+ years’ experience in a turf, horticultural, forestry, or agricultural setting with increasing responsibility
- 1+ years supervisory experience
- Experience in record-keeping
- Ability to read and effectively communicate in English verbally and in-writing.
- Strong organizational and time-management skills required
- Self-motivated with the ability to be flexible and maintain a calm, positive attitude towards changing circumstances
- Excellent communication skills and ability to motivate employees to perform efficiently
- While performing the duties of this job the employee will work both in and outdoors.
- The employee must work under extremes of hot and cold temperatures (30F-100F).
- The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.

Greenhouse Grower
JOB TITLE: Grower
DEPARTMENT: Propagation
REPORTS TO: Greenhouse Coordinator
WAGE RANGE: $24.00-$28.00 per hour
JOB DESCRIPTION: The propagation Grower is responsible for ensuring that a high percentage of plants meet established company grades and standards. This position works under the supervision of the Greenhouse Coordinator, and involves the care and maintenance of all rooted and unrooted plant material in the Tissue Culture acclimation greenhouse (Conley) and standard propagation greenhouse (P-1). This care includes but is not limited to the following:

WORK ENVIRONMENT: The work environment characteristics below are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of the job.
- Monitor daily and seasonal changes in weather conditions and adjust for proper greenhouse climate conditions.
- Adjust for correct mist settings and irrigation schedules.
- Preform basic maintenance and troubleshooting of solenoids, valves, misters and water lines.

- Recognize common pests and diseases, and communicate to Greenhouse Coordinator.
- Application of beneficial insects and nematodes.

- Monitor irrigation water disinfectant injection system.
- Operate computerized greenhouse control system (Argus).
- Plan for efficient flow of plant material through the greenhouse, including timely communication with the lab and prop supervisor.
- Coordinate movement of material from the Conley to the 800 houses.
- Sanitizing and preparing propagation facilities for incoming plant material.
- Plant maintenance to include mowing, vacuuming, clipping, condensing, pulling dead, weeding.
- Attend weekly walks in all propagation areas.
- Communicate inventory changes to inventory controller.
- Preform weekend and holiday checks.
- Apply products weekly as directed by the propagation coordinator.
- Posting and notification of all spray locations.
- Keep accurate State Pesticide Application records
- A high school diploma or general education degree (GED) and at least 4-years growing experience in a greenhouse.
- An associate’s degree in horticulture or a related field and 2 years’ experience growing in a greenhouse.
- A Bachelors Degree and 1 year of experience growing in a greenhouse.
- Have a Washington state private pesticide applicator’s license or be able to obtain license within 90 days.
- Must have a proven ability and interest in plant growing.
- Must be dependable and have a solid attendance history.
- Must be tolerant of repetitive tasks for extended periods of time.
- Must be able to work extra hours when necessary.
- Must be self-motivated and able to work well independently.
- Must be able to organize and prioritize multiple tasks.
- Must have good communication and math skills.
- Fluent in both English and Spanish
- Experience with ARGUS greenhouse controls
