Carex appalachica Appalachian sedge

Low growing, clump forming perennial sedge with fine textured arching foliage.

Native to dry forests of eastern North America from Maine to Georgia, slowly spreads by rhizome to form small colonies.  Perfect as a ground cover and lawn alternative in shady spots with low to no foot traffic.  Drought tolerant and fairly unpalatable to deer.  Prefers partial to full shade.
