Gordlinia grandiflora Mountain Gordlinia

  • North Carolina State University

Gordlinia grandiflora is a rare intergeneric hybrid resulting from a controlled cross between Franklinia alatamaha and Gordonia lasianthus.  Both parent plants are native to the US Southeast.  Grows more vigorously and has larger flowers than either parent.  Gordlinia is semi-evergreen, with orange/red fall foliage.  Blooms from July to early fall with 5″ flowers with white petals and yellow to orange central stamens. Similar in appearance to Camellia and lightly fragrant.

Used in landscaping as both a multi-stem or single trunk form.  Requires well draining soil.
