Pennisetum Alopecuroides Red Head

  • Intrinsic Perennial Gardens
  • RHS Award of Garden Merit

Red-hued bottlebrush plumes, a full eight inches long, emerge in midsummer. The fine-textured blooms extend just above its dark green leaves; foliage forms a rounded, arching habit that brings texture and shape to mixed borders and perennial plantings. Excellent for groundcover massing, but can also be used as an accent plant in gardens and containers. Blooms are excellent in dried and fresh arrangements.

Performs best in full sun.  Tolerates shade, but best flower production occurs in sun.  Prefers dry soils and handles drought well, it also grows in moist, well draining soils.
