Magnolia soulangeana ‘Tinkerbelle’ (PP31317) is a compact, upright hybrid magnolia bred by Vance Hooper. This elegant introduction is a refined tree well-suited to modern landscapes. Its slender, vertical growth habit and richly colored blooms make it especially valuable for smaller gardens or tight spaces where traditional magnolias may be too bulky.

In early to mid-spring, Tinkerbelle produces a profusion of upright, cup-shaped flowers in a deep red-purple hue. These blossoms emerge on bare branches, allowing their saturated color to stand out vividly against the late-winter landscape. Tinkerbelle’s blooms maintain their tulip-like form and color throughout the flowering period, creating a clean and elegant display.

This cultivar grows to a moderate height of 10 to 15 feet, with a narrow spread of 4 to 6 feet, making it an ideal choice for ornamental planting near homes, in courtyards, or in mixed borders. It performs best in full sun to partial shade and prefers well-drained, slightly acidic soils. Hardy in USDA Zones 5 through 9, Tinkerbelle is well-adapted to a range of climates and can withstand the conditions of both temperate and cooler gardens.
